British Tunisian Society Launch Event

The event hosted by the Arab British Chamber of Commerce was intended to celebrate the reconstitution of the British Tunisian Society. For 45 years until 2008, the BTS worked to spread greater knowledge of Tunisia in Britain and closer cultural ties in a broad field including archaeology, architecture, natural history, and music, as well as promoting closer links in trade and education and tourism.

In 2018, the Tunisian Embassy together with a group of committed friends of Tunisia led by Mr. Robin Kealy, former British Ambassador to Tunisia, decided to refound the BTS in order to continue and build on the achievements and values of the BTS over its first 45 years of existence.

The launch event was attended by British and Tunisians as well as personalities including the son of the late Lord Alexander of Tunis, one of the leading founders of the BTS. It was followed by the private screening of the film "The Man Behind the Microphone", of the British Tunisian Director Claire Ben Hassine who was present at the event. Her film is a documentary about the life of her grandfather, the Tunisian icon singer Hedi Jouini dubbed the "Arab Frank Sinatra".

The BTS Committee members are Mr. Robin Kealy, Chair; Prof. Charles Tripp and Dr. Corisande Fenwick, Vice-Chairs, Mrs. Wafa Zaiane, Secretary, Mr. Ghassen Dhifallah, Treasurer, Mr. John Pinniger and Mr. Adam Bouchaala, members.

The BTS has a website containing details about its background, its objectives and on how to join- as we hope you soon will!
